Not a Stick by Antoinette Portis

When the unseen narrator urges, “Be careful with that stick,” the pig replies that it’s not a stick. And sure enough, on succeeding pages, the object is a sword, a fishing rod, and even a horse. A stick can be anything you imagine!

Two challenges for students in this activity:

  1. Invent a “not a stick” for Piggy to hold.
  2. Engineer a device to help Piggy stand up on its own.
