American Symbols and Landmarks (1st Grade)
After studying symbols and landmarks of the United States, students create their own models that represent their understanding of these objects.
Essential Questions:
- What are the major symbols / monuments of the American Government?
- Why are symbols / monuments important to America?
- How do artifacts become symbols / monuments of American and/or the United States government?

learn about the symbols, icons, and songs that reflect our common heritage.”
1.3 Students know and understand the symbols, icons, and traditions of the United
States that provide continuity and a sense of community across time.
3. Identify American symbols, landmarks, and essential documents, such as the flag, bald
eagle, Statue of Liberty, U.S. Constitution, and Declaration of Independence, and know
the people and events associated with them.
